This is an exciting opportunity to provide healing, beautiful food for guests at an innovative retreat and leadership centre - the Inspired Life Centre, Europe’s newest holistic wellness and leadership venue. We host conscious soul-connected retreats such as  yoga, meditation and breathwork, as well as heart-centred leadership retreats, amongst the beautiful olive groves and pines of the Spanish Andalucian countryside.

 

This role would suit an individual looking for an exciting new experience in a stunning location. This is a full-time role with hours based around the guest requirements and so full commitment is required. You will have time off during the week and your hours will be self-managed around the requirements of retreat guests and the centre. We require a minimum commitment of 10 months, but we aim to schedule significant time off during the hot summer months of July and August.

The Role

The key focus of this role is to take responsibility for all aspects of  catering at ILC and to provide guests with inspiring, life-nourishing food. 

ā€‹

Specific Responsibilities:

 

  • Full operational responsibility for the kitchen and meal requirements: budget, maintenance, clean-up, recipe, service.

  • Working closely with the centre manager.

  • Fully managing the food experience of the centre.

  • Creating a centre ‘food bible’ of all processes, flows and maintenance schedules.

  • Building and implementing Centre meal prep and kitchen maintenance systems from the ground up.

  • The role involves getting involved, not just delegating.

  • Creating a food experience that includes: healthy and healing foods, juices and smoothies. Vegetarian. Vibrant.

Food Preparation

  • Co-ordinate and take responsibility for all food and drink purchasing for the centre.

  • Design menus and recipes and prepare and serve tasty and nutritious vegetarian meals on schedule.

  • Ability to follow recipes and adjust quantities as needed.

  • Ability to collaborate on new recipes and create independently as needed.

  • Maintain an orderly and efficient kitchen work space.

  • Ensure the work environment meets or surpasses hygiene and safety standards set by regulations.

  • Assist with special events as needed.

 

Other

  • Attend kitchen staff meetings and all staff meetings as scheduled. 

  • Keep up to date with kitchenā€related emails, schedules and kitchen updates.

  • Shop for produce, keep the kitchen clean and well stocked.

  • Other related assignments as necessary.

  • Performs daily recordkeeping tasks including quantity logs, inventory and recipe modification.

The Person

 

We are looking for:

  • Knowledge of healing foods, naturopathy, ayurveda or some other healing modality is highly desirable. 

  • Passion for food as art and a route to health.

  • Self starter and highly organised. 

  • Great previous experience. 

  • Strong positive people skills.

  • An individual who cares deeply about positive change, spiritual and emotional development, and the wellbeing of people. 

  • Someone who is passionate about their own growth, the growth and development of a team and the wellbeing of the guests.

  • A natural leader with good emotional intelligence and a good sense of humour.

  • Excellent time management skills.

  • Someone who loves efficiency and systems but is flexible and adaptable.

  • Precise organisation and attention to detail.

  • Self-motivation.

  • Must have reliable transportation as we are in a rural location 

  • Speaking Spanish is desirable but not essential.

 

Skills/Qualifications required:

  • Retreat meal planning, budgeting and shopping. You will be solely responsible for designing and creating nutritious vegetarian retreat meal plans, fresh juices, smoothies and herbal teas.

  • One to three years of professional cooking experience focused on fresh ingredients and seasonal produce, in a vegetarian kitchen, preferably in a contemplative work setting.

  • Flexibility in schedule on a daily and weekly basis, and ability to work evenings and weekends.

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills; ability to take direction; ability to function as both team leader and team player.

  • Ability to remain calm under kitchen pressure, and ability to work compassionately with retreat guests.

  • Physical:  Required to lift, carry, push or pull objects up to 50 pounds. Frequently required to perform moderately difficult manipulative tasks such as lifting large pans of food in and out of the oven, carrying heavy boxes of produce, performing repetitive motions of cutting, stirring and whisking; Ability to work in a standing position for up to 8 hours in the kitchen.

  • A full driving licence

  • Ability to live and work in the EU (Spain)

 

Package

This is a key role for someone looking to develop their talents in a creative and inspiring environment and positively enhance their CV. The role can be either a live-in or live-out position in the rural countryside of Southern Spain, a 1 hour drive from the nearest Airport and 20 minutes from the nearest large town. Basic accommodation is provided if desired. Salary is negotiable.
